Peplum Cardigan & Maxi Dress Two-Piece Set — Button-Front Co-ord

A two-piece set built around one idea: a fitted button-front cardigan that stops at the hip in a soft flounce, worn over a floor-length dress that falls straight from the waist. The cardigan is the piece that does the work — a stand collar, a full covered-button placket, gathered shoulders and long bishop sleeves that open into a wide cuff. Below the waist seam the flounce separates at the centre front, so the panels hang free over the dress instead of gripping it.

Because the two pieces are separate, the set wears three ways: together as a co-ord, the cardigan over trousers or a slip, or the dress on its own when the cardigan is too much. The dress is cut high at the waist and sweeps out to a wide hem, which is what gives it the fall you see in the photographs rather than a straight column.

Size guide

The measurements below are the ones published with this product, in centimetres with inches alongside. It is made in five sizes: S, M, L, XL and 2XL. All figures are garment measurements taken all the way around — they describe the clothes, not the body. Hand measuring carries a tolerance of roughly 1–3 cm, and the dress length is taken from the waist seam down, not from the shoulder.

How it is cut

The cardigan is shaped at the natural waist by a narrow seam, and everything below that seam is the flounce. Because the flounce hangs free rather than being stitched flat to the dress, it keeps its own shape when you move — it lifts and settles instead of dragging. The centre-front split means the two panels can part as you walk, so the dress shows through in a moving vertical line.

The sleeve is the other deliberate shape. It is gathered at the shoulder to give volume at the top, then stays full all the way down and finishes in a wide 38–42 cm cuff opening instead of tapering to the wrist. That width is what makes the cuff sit away from the hand and fall open when your arm drops. The stand collar balances it: upright, narrow, with a small notch at centre front so the neckline does not read closed.

The dress is the calm piece. It is cut to fit at the waist and then released into a full A-line that measures 178–194 cm around the hem — nearly double the hip measurement, which is why it falls in soft folds to the floor rather than hanging straight. The length is taken from the waist seam, so 100–104 cm of dress hangs below the waist.

Stuck on sizing?

Start with the bust on the cardigan and the waist on the dress, because those are the two places the set is fitted. The bust runs 94 cm at S to 110 cm at 2XL, an even 4 cm between sizes; the waist runs 68 cm to 84 cm, also in 4 cm steps. If your bust and waist land in different sizes, the dress waist is the harder one to live with, so size to the waist and let the cardigan sit slightly easier — the flounce hides a little extra room through the hip.

The waist figures are garment measurements, so the dress has no allowance built in beyond what is listed. Measure your own waist with the tape snug but not pulled tight, and compare that number directly to the waist row.
